City of Calgary (CoC)

Sixense was selected through a competitive bidding process to modernize the City of Calgary’s Bridge Management System (BMS), replacing an outdated system with Beyond Asset—our advanced asset management platform.

This solution was tailored to help the City efficiently manage its extensive bridge infrastructure by:

  • Centralizing and organizing condition information from various sources.
  • Modeling structural deterioration to forecast major rehabilitation needs.
  • Identifying maintenance needs and priorities to optimize asset longevity.
  • Managing annual inspection programs and budgets with a data-driven approach.

Phased Implementation Approach

The project began with a Proof of Concept (PoC) to demonstrate Beyond Asset’s ability to meet the City’s requirements. Upon successful validation, the project moved into a phased implementation to ensure early access to essential functionalities:

  • Phase 1: Fully configured and deployed the Inventory, Inspection, and Activities modules, along with a mobile application for field investigations.
  • Phase 2: Delivered the Life Cycle Cost (LCC) module, customized for Calgary’s bridge network, ensuring compliance with Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) standards.

This phased approach allowed the City to start utilizing the system early while ensuring a seamless integration of all functionalities.

We are currently monitoring the following assets:
✔ 473 bridges and overpasses
✔ 554 retaining walls
✔ 431 noise walls
✔ 40 culverts/tunnels
✔ 100 “Plus 15” pedestrian bridges
✔ 80 stair structures
✔ 43 transit non-SLA assets
