AMTS Monitoring – Cyclops™

Sixense’s AMTS monitoring combines high-precision automated total stations, field-proven sensor networks, and real-time data processing to protect critical infrastructure across sectors.

Our AMTS Monitoring Services

AMTS monitoring is an automated optical survey process used on construction sites to measure 3D angles and position data with motorized total stations. Sixense deploys high-precision AMTS equipment across a wide range of tunneling, excavation, rail, bridge, and geotechnical projects to track displacement at sub-millimeter accuracy, 24/7.

Cyclops, Sixense’s AMTS monitoring combines robotic total station instruments, survey prisms, and reflectorless points set at remote site locations with solar power, connected to cloud-based software. These automated monitoring technologies transform continuous field data into actionable reports, allowing project teams to identify changes without manual survey delays or field interventions.

Scalable AMTS Monitoring for Every Project Phase

Sixense can design and configure every AMTS program to support the complete project lifecycle, including sensor selection, installation, data acquisition, automated alert management, and validated reporting. Sixense delivers AMTS solutions to support complex projects that need frequent data collection or coverage across three or more measurement zones.

With 30 years of industry experience, Sixense pairs AMTS monitoring with on-site engineering to help reduce risk and lower cost on applications of every scale.

3D Displacement Monitoring Solution

AMTS leverages automated robotic theodolites to remotely measure movement in three dimensions or perpendicular to a surface with exceptional accuracy. Sixense can also group multiple theodolites to cover large areas while maintaining the required precision through its Automated Total Station platform, by networking total stations together.

Our long‑standing experience, customer centric philosophy, and commitment to data quality enable Cyclops™ AMTS to achieve superior reliability, often making it the preferred solution for correcting or replacing third‑party monitoring systems.

Applications of Our AMTS Monitoring

Our AMTS monitoring (Cyclops™) is suitable for any project or structure affected by absolute deformation (3D monitoring) or relative deformation (distance changes, differential settlement, inclination, etc.), including:

  • Structural or site movement: buildings, bridges, dams, landslides, mines, embankments or surcharged areas, and more
  • Tunnel convergence
  • Settlement  of roads, pavements, pipelines, utilities, and rail tracks

These applications benefit from Cyclops™’s precision as an AMTS system.

Principle of Operation

Cyclops™ remotely controls robotic theodolites to measure 3D movement or displacement perpendicular to a surface with sub‑millimetric accuracy.

The system can operate in automatic, semi‑automatic, or manual modes, allowing it to adapt to evolving monitoring needs such as acquisition frequency, energy constraints, visibility changes, shifting influence zones, and safety requirements.

What Sixense’s AMTS Monitoring Delivers

  • A flexible solution for a wide range of scenarios: standalone or networked, with or without prisms, fixed or mobile, installed inside the zone of influence but referenced externally.
  • Sub‑millimetric accuracy for high‑precision monitoring.
  • Compatibility with complex inspection programs and phased monitoring strategies.
  • Allows for remote autonomous monitoring without boots on the groun

AMTS Monitoring of Settlement Plates

  • Used to measure vertical ground settlement beneath placed fills, including surcharge and embankment construction.
  • Consists of a steel base plate with a threaded riser pipe; extensions are added as fill height increases.
  • Risers can be fitted with prisms for AMTS monitoring, GNSS sensors, or low-range piezometers for automated elevation tracking.
  • Data can be collected automatically via AMTS or GNSS, with measurements transmitted to a secure project website for reporting.
